Migrant Justice Milk with Dignity Picket
On May 1, 2024, International Workers Day, ten Mercy Associates and Sisters joined in a picket at Hannafords Grocery store in Williston, Vermont to encourage a change in their corporate stand regarding treatment of dairy farm workers.
Migrant Justice is trying to get Hannaford Corporation to sign a binding agreement with Migrant Justice that will ensure safe working conditions and fair pay for farm workers in the dairy industry in Vermont. This campaign clearly comes within our critical concern for Immigrants.
Many Vermont groups, including contingents from several high schools and colleges, as well as faith-based groups, participated. Our Justice Team committed to a two-hour block of time to participate in this rally/picket at Hannafords. Justice Resource Manager Angela McParland was able to stay on and join us after her recent visit to Vermont. We proudly wore our Mercy Justice T-shirts over layers on a chilly day.
Also last summer, a number of Mercy and Associates and Sisters participated in similar rallies near the Hannaford Supermarket in South Burlington, VT.
